Question by Jessthemess: I bought a cheap little digital camera…..?
It’s just one of those $ 10 keychain cameras from Walgreens. The problem is, I can’t get it to load the pics on my comp. I used it on another comp at school and it worked just fine, except for the web cam mode. Now it says it installed the drivers and everything, but it doesn’t work. It says “cannot connect to camera” on the comp, in the My Camera thingy. Any suggestions?

A quick rundown to doing timelapse with a webcam. Last year I went down the digital single lens reflex path (DSLR) and it worked, but was expensive and not terribly satisfactory. It wasnt a total disaster as the camera is quite good for astro stuff. This year I went down the webcam and a netbook path and its worked out very well. The netbook can run the rig for the best part of a day (7hrs ish). Its all in probably smaller and lighter than the DSLR and MUCH cheaper. Further the files are written straight to the HD so there is no worries about filling up memory cards etc. There are many intermediate routes. Basically using a point n press which has some time lapse capability. These has some advantages and disadvantages from both sides. Battery life is still an issue. Memory cards similarly. Shutter is not an issue, nor is size. Personally Ive been really impressed with the webcam. This webcam only shoots in 4×3 but apparently widescreen webcams are coming out soon!

In this video I am talking about/reviewing my new camera which is a Logitech HD Webcam C270. You can see the quality for yourself (as I’m obviously using it to film the video!) I would really recommend this camera if you are looking for a good quality webcam but you don’t want to spend much money. It’s really simple to use, works well in low lighting conditions (unlike most low-cost webcams) and you can edit the videos in Windows Movie Maker (sorry mac users!). I bought mine from Amazon and it’s currently around £18 on the UK site. Question by Rory T: help with my SUPER CHEAP digital camera?
I recently received a digital camera as a “door prize” there dose not seem to be any brand name, or even a serial number on it. on the box it claims to be compatible with 98, 2000, me, xp, vista. I tried the included disk which has “arcsoft photo impression” and “arcsoft video impression” and “adobe reader 6.0″ I also tried the wizards on my pc yet the camera remained un-installed. the only markings on the camera are “digital”
When I plug it into the computer via USB the computer “Finds a new USB camera” but cannot find the drivers. Any Ideas or expieriance with this product?

Sounds a bit strange, you shouldn’t need any software on your pc to get pictures from the camera, just pop the memory card into a reader instead, I find that easier than searching for the camera lead every time, good luck with it!
